On December 30th, the reactor building of the world's highest-power solution-type medical isotope reactor located in Jiajiang County, Leshan City, Sichuan Province was successfully capped. The main project of the test reactor building is about to shift from the civil construction stage to the equipment installation stage. The high-speed and efficient construction progress has laid a solid foundation for getting off to a good start in 2025.

At the event site, engineering technicians carried out the construction meticulously. The large tower crane successfully hoisted the capping girder. The project commander announced the successful capping of the test reactor building, and warm applause and cheers broke out at the scene.

It is understood that this project is the first solution-type medical isotope test reactor in China, with a construction period of 42 months and is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2027. As the world's highest-power solution-type medical isotope production reactor, after being put into operation, it can achieve an annual production capacity of 100,000 curies for medical isotopes such as molybdenum-99 and 20,000 curies for iodine-131 respectively, driving the development of downstream industrial clusters. It will turn China from an importer into an exporter at one stroke, solving the "choke point" problem that the country has long been dependent on imports and at the mercy of others for these two isotopes. Meanwhile, it will significantly reduce the prices of domestic medical isotope drugs, meet the needs of tens of millions of people in China for nuclear medicine diagnosis and treatment, and enable more people to have access to and afford them.
